Welcome to

Sensing Horse and Rider is a collaborative project between Equine Therapist, Stephanie Bolger and Human Movement Coach, Jacqueline Grangien.
Steph and Jac have discovered fascinating similarities between concepts of movement in horses and humans.
It’s crucial to recognise that horses and humans are not purely biomechanical beings; our thoughts, impulses & emotions are profoundly expressed in our movement
Distilled from years of learning and clinical experience, our courses seek to help riders and their horses develop a more Confident and Graceful Partnership by harnessing the Power of Sensory Awareness.
Our mission is to Empower riders to find Confidence and Effortless Movement in partnership with their horse.

Who are we?
Steph
Steph’s background is rooted in years of rigorous academic study & hands-on experience as a rider from a young age. She has completed a Certificate in Equine Massage, Red Light Therapy, Bachelor in Equine Studies, Honours in Functional Anatomy and studied up to PhD level as part of the Functional Anatomy and Biomechanics Research Group at the University of Melbourne run by Professor Helen Davies.
Her deep knowledge of biomechanics and supportive nature led to successful outcomes for many of her clients. However, she quickly recognized that while addressing the horse’s movement was important, the rider also needed to address their own movement potential to fully complement their horse. This is where she reached out to Jac to to create a teaching program that would help riders and their horses forge a deeper, more Effortless Connection.

Jac
Jac had spent decades working in Human Performance Movement, with a particular focus on understanding why low back pain was so prevalent and why traditional treatments often fell short. During her own research into low back pain, Jac met Steph when she was recruited for the study. It was here that their relationship began, ultimately leading to the creation of Sensing Horse & Rider. You can find out more about her here: https://fitrec.org/p/JacGrangien
“The horse and rider connection relies on a feedback loop. You need to be able to sense each other to perform as if you are one.”

Why Sensing Horse and Rider
Many courses often only target the human OR the horse, but Steph and Jac’s courses are uniquely designed to address both the human and horse as individuals and as a partnership.
Steph and Jac discovered intriguing similarities between movement concepts in both horses and humans. They now approach their work from a bio-psycho-social perspective, which significantly influences how they manage treatment and training.
